Gabriel alzò il braccio in alto compiendo un movimento circolare con la mano, come per tagliare l’aria.
L’aria effettivamente si tagliò.
Come da una finestra apparvero le stelle, le galassie, i pianeti.
Tutto l’universo contenuto in una piccola immagine.
- Ascolta - disse Gabriel ad Alice - c’è anche la tua voce.
Con le dita toccò dolcemente uno per uno tutto quello che conteneva il quadretto.
Pochi istanti dopo, tutto ciò che aveva toccato iniziò a vibrare.
Ne scaturì una musica che le parole non riusciranno mai descrivere.
- E’ un incantesimo? - chiese Alice  
- No - le sussurrò nell’orecchio - E’ la Realtà.
La musica riempì l’aria.
Man mano che il suo volume aumentava, dall’apertura creata da Gabriel, uscì una luce bianca e accecante.
La luce invase tutto come un vento. Assorbì ogni cosa.
Tutta la città e tutti noi ci fermammo per ascoltare la musica, lasciandoci avvolgere da quella luce che, per quanto accecante, non disturbava, ma infondeva un senso di pace e di felicità assoluta.
Sfiorò gli edifici, gli alberi, le montagne.
Planò sui prati, scivolando sull’erba.
S’immerse nel mare per virare fra le nuvole.  
Poi la musica si affievolì e la luce compì il suo percorso a ritroso, rientrando nella finestra da cui era uscita.
Con lo stesso gesto circolare Gabriel richiuse l’apertura ricavandone una piccola sfera d’oro brillantissima, tanto piccola che entrava in una mano.

Tutti avevamo il nostro da fare perché ogni cosa rimanesse efficiente, viva e in continuo rinnovamento.
Il più piccolo danno al più invisibile degli insetti di uno sperduto rigagnolo d’acqua nascosto tra le montagne, avrebbe provocato dei seri danni in uno dei tanti pianeti delle galassie.
Il mantenimento degli equilibri nella nostra città significava la salvaguardia della vita di tutto l’Universo.
Eravamo immersi in un lavoro continuo di controllo e manutenzione di ciò che si riverberava nello Spazio visibile e invisibile.
